US study confirms even larger gas deposits off Israeli coast
According to a US government report published on Thursday, there is potential for finding huge quantities of natural gas off the coast of Israel which would exceed by a factor of 17 times the reserves already discovered in the Tamar field 90 km off the Haifa coast. The US Geological Survey estimated a mean of 1.7 billion barrels of recoverable oil and 122 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas in the Levant Basin Province in the eastern Mediterranean off the coast of Israel and Lebanon, which would be worth tens of billions of US dollars.
